I had to stop reading Franz Kafka’s book “The Castle”. Over 100 pages in I realized that K’s experience of the bureaucracy was practically a mirror of my own life. He thought he had a new job when he really didn’t, he meets official after official all of whom know the rules but have no answers to his predicament, and he gets turned around and jerked around too many times to count. I had some challenging reads this year already, but this one is plainly dread inducing, so I must replace it. Instead I’m now reading “Lord of Light” by Roger Zelazny alongside “Moonchild” by Aleister Crowley. These 2 books will conclude my 2026 reading list
